Your pledge makes ministry possible.

Someone recently pointed out that we’ve had Psalm 23 in the lectionary already twice this past year. It seems appropriate, doesn’t it? The Psalmist’s words take on new meaning as together we have “walked through the valley of the shadow of death” that has been caused by the global Covid-19 pandemic.

And yet, difficult as it has been for so many, we are getting through it together with God’s help. God’s “goodness and mercy have followed” us through it all, and the Holy Spirit has been present as we have reached out to each other and our neighbors in love.

Little did we know that as God’s light on the hill in Kula, we would be so uniquely poised to reach out to our surrounding community during this pandemic. Our Food Pantry now serves more people in a day than we previously did in a month! And the Community Fellowship Dinners we’ve enjoyed over the years now have much more emphasis on “dinner” than “fellowship,” but at the same time they are also more community-oriented than ever, as we broaden our reach across upcountry serving close to 100 meals each time. Mahalo Ke Akua for the gifts of these ministries and the scores of parishioners who make them possible!

Indeed, everything that happens in this community is made possible through the love of God and the gifts of our parishioners. Our worship, both in-person and online, is made possible because of your dedication to making sure that St. John’s remains a vibrant worshiping community for years to come.  You do this through your presence, the stewardship of your talents, and the stewardship of your financial resources, when you give back just a little to God all that God has given you, through the ministries of St. John’s Church.

I am new to pledging. How does it work?

A pledge is an offering that you can make weekly, monthly, or annually. There are a variety of ways to make your pledge payments, including cash or check, credit card, bank transfers, appreciated stock transfers, or as charitable gift from an IRA. Learn more or make a pledge payment.

When we make our pledges each year, we offer them to God in gratitude for all God has given us;  we offer them in hope for a bright future; and, we offer them in support of the many ministries of our church. By offering a pledge you are committing to support God’s work through St. John’s in such a way that it helps our leadership to budget and plan for the following year more easily than if everyone just put cash in the plate each Sunday. Just like a family has to make their budget based on what they expect for the next year, so does the church. Likewise, just as an individual’s income may change and they have to make decisions based on that new reality, so does the church.
